An article that is published as a case study in the SJR listed journal. How much value is added to a researcher career? How it is evaluated by a scientific researcher/University admission commission/professor during the Masters or Ph.D. admission?
Many case studies are of great scientific value just like any other good research. If the idea under study is good and undertaken in a creative method, it should be considered as any original paper, if not it will be considered as a good activity !! This makes wide difference.
There are many factors and it is hard to give an answer for all situations. It may most depend on the school. If the school or department most values quantitative, experimental research then a case study may not be seen as being as good. But in many disciplines and departments, qualitative studies are well valued, particularly in social science fields.
Good Evening---I believe that case studies are valuable and carry scientific merit when they are 1) unusual cases and 2) the topic is infrequently found in the scientific literature. While findings can certainly not be generalized, they can certainly be studied as an example by researchers should they experience a similar case. I agree with Dr. Marek that good case reports are valued in the social and medical sciences to describe intervention management, often qualitatively.
