Can I crop the controls of a PCR to pieces of gel that do not have controls?

Our gel with too combs is too big for the imager so we cut it into four parts. Now only one piece has a positive and negative control (but the run and electrophoresis are the same). Can I crop the controls for a publication by photoshop and add them to the pieces that don't have them? Or should I from now on before electrophoresis put controls in every piece of gel to be later cut? Thank you in advance for the answers.

After substantial reading I learned: Yes, i can crop them, but nonadjacent bands should be separated by a solid black line.
