Science fairs, quizzes and exhibitions are already proved to be potential agents of nourishing the talents of students and encouraging them towards more discoveries in Science. Can Science debates be another such useful agent in modern day world?
Yes, one of the main ways to nurture the science talents in organizations is the science debates. Interaction and discussion between scholars is very useful.
Dear @Shankhadeep, sciences debate are very important factor for developing student's skills as my dear predecessors have mentioned. More debates, more success! Here is the example from my country. European Student Parliament is a project initiated by Wissenschaft im Dialog from Berlin with the goal to strengthen dialogue between students aged between 16 and 19 and scientific researchers in Europe. It was hosted by Center for the Promotion of Science.
Thank you all who answered and followed. But can this type of debate yield good results for all level of learners in an institution where different types of learners are taking education at the same time? Can there be an alternative way? Please specify.
Yes science debates can help a lot, provided that the persons that succeed in those debates have a real benefit, other from the ethical satisfaction. Otherwise it is just another way to spend your time...
Thank you sir for your positive answer. Another thing is that the topic of debate does matter a lot to the learners. If the topic is interesting and relevant, it can help a lot to all. Isn't it? Please post your thoughts.
Formal education in more complex societies gave rise to teachers, schools, and out-of-context learning in classes, because this specialization allows a more efficient transmission of culture. Over the centuries entire school systems have been developed with their own educational philosophies. Today, the partition into primary, secondary, and optional tertiary (university or vocational) education is predominant, and the educational duties of schools are clearly prescribed by law. Note, however, that informal education, such as happens within the family, still plays an important role. Oscar Wilde once said: ``Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught.''
Undoubtedly, dear Shankhadeep, science debates are very useful in nourishing the individual and plural talents of students and in encouraging them towards further scientific exploration. Such deliberations hone common knowledge and intellectual curiosity!
Serbian students are very successful in international students debates! Students of the Belgrade University have won the European Universities Debating Championship!
I believe debate improves critical thinking skills and nurture the science talents. These things contribute to the advancement and development of sciences.
There are doubts when the way you say/explain things (gestures, vocal expression) become more important that the content of what you say/explain. People that are not specialist in a given field, and that can not judge the contents of messages transmitted, may become 'victims' of efficient communication strategies conducted in oral debates, e.g. they might be convinced by verbal non-sense?
To Russo, "Let's abandon all the facts (stereotypes) -they inhibit to see the truth. What for? Motivation is more important". In the discussion the truth may be born. It helps ethically assert your views and listen to those of others. This effective tool for self-improvement - all is learned in comparison. It's very important to have critical thinking in the epoch of information war and competitions of all kind. We know L.Ron Habbard's thought,"The only way to control people is to lie them"
Interest in applying philosophical analysis to risk assessment originated in response to debates about the development and expansion of nuclear power-generating technologies.
