I am trying to evaluate the toxicity of ZnO-NP in aquatic organisms, but we have not improved its dispersion by using DMSO. Acidification (p/e: pH less than 7 or 8) is not suitable. How can I improve its dispersion percentage before any toxicological test (by heating, sonication, stirring, etc. during the process)?
DMSO is more toxic than ZnO so you can’t consider that continuous phase. For toxicity studies, your systems must be aqueous based.
Thank you so much, Dr Rawle, we are considering those positive controls for our toxicity tests. We already know that low amounts of DMSO are not toxic for our target species, but we need to figure it out the best mixture/proportion without compromise the effects on our fish. As you said, if we need to add considerable amounts of DMSO, it won't be suitable for our protocol.
