Spectrophotometer can be used to detect the phytochemical constituents qualitatively as well as quantitatively. In qualitative approach you will only be able to know about the presence and absence of certain phytochemical in your herbal specimen. While following the quantitative approach one can know about the amount of certain phytochemical in respective sample. But, for precision you may have to follow the chromatographic techniques like HPLC etc.
You can do HPLC, HPTLC profilng by comparing with standard phytomolecules. Or else you can go with GC-MS or LC-Ms to find out probable phytochemical present in the herbal extract.
