I am performing a study on the gut micro biome of Neotropical bats and have collected guano, intestinal tissue, and blood from each species. For comparability of results, I would like to use one extraction kit for all three sample types. Has anyone had success with a particular kit? I was thinking of using ThermoFisher's PureLink Microbiome kit, but haven't read any reviews for extraction from tissue.

We've primarily been using MoBio (which is now owned by Qiagen) for fecal samples. I know many studies use the PowerSoil kit for microbiome stool extractions, however we have switched to the PowerLyzer as I like the glass beads better.

I agree with Christine, we have successfully used it for oral swabs, esophageal biopsies and stool samples. Good luck!
I have been using the QIAamp DNA Stool Mini Kit and it works very well. Since you are planning to work on gut microbiome, no matter what kit you use, i suggest you modify the protocol a little bit and use a beadbeater to be able to reach all the bugs in there as much as possible.
Dear Melissa, in our studies, we use EZNA stool kit, it works very well from fecal and rumen samples for DNA extraction. For tissue, my suggestion is to use qiagen tissue kits.

Mert, last time I extracted DNA using two different kits for two different sources from human samples I was questioned by the reviewers. Is that something you have come across too? I believe they prefer same kit regardless of the sample type.
We prefered EZNA stool kit to extract DNA from total rumen bacteria. It was more economic from other kits (number of test samples vs kit price) . Actually, we didn't compare our results with other commercially available similar kits. We use extracted DNA for Real-Time PCR studies.
Alain, I agree that it is better to use one kit for everything. The extraction kit can bias the community profile in terms of abundance, so I am not surprised that reviewers might worry about comparability if you use two different kits. Thanks everyone for your very helpful recommendations.
I agree with Mert Sudagidan I used to EZNA stool kit to extract DNA I think it's good, but I never try Qiagen . It may be a good choice for you.
I think you should use QIAamp BiOstic Bacteremia DNA Kit it is for isolation of bacterial DNA from fecal material and swabs both.
dont think there is a kit that will work perfectly for all these diverse samples... PureLink microbiome kit works great for a wide variety of microbiome samples (stool, soil, swabs, urine, saliva, etc); tissue and blood - maybe...worth exploring
