I'm doing a co-simulation in Abaqus but after many steps the analysis abortes with the following error:
''The Abaqus Analysis is terminated because the time increment is smaller than minimum allowable increment size specified on the procedure option'' (in Abaqus Standard-Explicit).
I tried to run the CFD alone and it works, so the error is just that one in Abaqus Standard. I reduced the time increment but the analysis aborts again with the same message (but with more steps).

Have you reduced:
1- the time-increment scale?
2- the minimal time-increment allowed for ABAQUS solver?
I could see the first improving stability and also increasing the number of iterations for reaching the same point in the analysis where the time-increment required breaches the allowable limit.
However, the error message appears to relate to the second value, which gives ABAQUS the threshold time-increment over which the analysis would become too resource intensive and the analysis should be terminated.
As far as I know, the two solutions for avoiding this limit are:
1- Reducing the value of the allowable time-increment limit (obviously). This might be a good solution if you think you are relatively close to the analysis end, but might result in excessively long calculation times.
2- Increasing the mesh size of your model (larger elements allow for larger time-steps as the speed of wave propagation is constant within the element). This might however require that you make some kind of convergence analysis to ensure that you don't end up with an excessively coarse mesh.
The hard part is striking the balance between element size for precise results and time-increment requirements for solution stability and resource requirements.

·Check the message file for warning messages that could cause convergence difficulties. Check the model definition, and make sure that the model can actually withstand the applied loads.
Do it again the boundary conditions, contact surfaces, restrictions in general. Check especially the data contained in analysis of properties (material, sections ..). Usually the problem is these settings when missing some information for the software.
