I have the following solid to mesh in order to use it in abaqus and made cosimulation. The domain of the solid is a domain of a parallelepipet less the domain of jacket's structure and it' s a fluid. The issue is that abaqus tells me that the geometry is too complicated to be found then i have to use femap. I have some problems in doing so. Furthermore during the export. Which is the supported format? thanks
There are many ways to create the mesh. Initially you have to deside the way of doing the analysis. It looks like a truss or frame system. Generally these type of structures are created using by simple lines which are passing through the center of gravity of the cross sectional areas of the beams. After that you have to give the cross sectional detail to the lines (beams). Thus your system will be composed of lines and points. So everything will be easy when you are creating the geometry and constraints.
But if you gonna make the fluid dynamics analysis you have to create the structure or fluid itself or sometimes both. If you have troubles when you create the structure for meshing generally people are making the same mistake by creating the structure by one part. For a quality mesh you should use a kind of mesher programme like hypermesh or the other way is create your model as an assembly composed of simple and swept meshable or mapped parts. After that you should mesh it, part by part. And also you should glue or make a contact between the parts.
For exporting the data from CAD programme, initially you have to check the design tolerance of the CAD programme. For best quality mesh, we are using 0.00015 tolerance values for CAD models. After that you can send your data from CAD to FEM codes by using " *.IGES format" is good enough.
