I have a support base part of a vacuum filtration setup. I filtered HNO3 treated CNTs under vacuum conditions with a 0.45 micrometer PTFE membrane placed on this base. After the filtration process ended, black dots on the membrane appeared. How can I clean it? Would you please provide me with any suggestions?
Hi, I work using a ceramic membrane for UF blended oil / hexane. First I tried cleaning counterflow (with solvent) did not get good results. Then I realized cleaning riding a similar UF system (in my case was to minimize contact of the system with water) with an alkaline cleaning solution (Ultrasil 110) 2% v / v, rinsing with distilled water until a pH similar to water. If it's that I can talk to you about details.
Hi dear Renata, actually I did some cleaning cycles. I backwashed the membrane with ethanol and deionized water in sequence using a pump. The CNTs stuck in the pores are somewhat lower now but they are still there. I am not sure if chemical treatments with acid or bases may damage the membrane or not. I have'nt tried that yet.
Acidic or alkaline solutions should be avoid in your case. Try to use a simple bath in a solution of H2O2 or sodium hypochlorite and rinse with abundant water from the back

Do you have an idea what the composition of the black dots are? The earlier suggestions for chemical/oxidation cleaning would the first to test. If it is/could be organic material then heating in a 550oC oven would remove all organics.
