I want to know about the Mother Tiller Supremacy in crops, having tillering ability. If it is a desirable character, then what is its role? If there is any reference, it would be better.
I have observed in wheat where tillers are almost same. Few genotypes showed more vigorous mother tiller (means main tiller). It is beneficial to select mother tiller when you go for single spike selection in segregating populations instead of single plant selections.
If yo take the barley crop as an example, our studies showed that hordeum spontanum has much more tillers than cultivated barley. Seeding rate and nitrogen levels plays an important role in increasing the number of tillers.
