There is some error in *.inp file. You should look at the 'exa_hydfracture.dat' file which has generated for the details of error.

Thanks for your suggestion! Yes, I figured out that there's an error in the input file. Actually, the .inp file in the example manual has reduced step duration and output for quality assurance and test efficiency purposes. If I run the file as it is, there is no error. However, when I try to follow the instructions in the .inp file (i.e. "MAKE CHANGES HERE") and try modify the file to see the results shown in the example manual, I get an error while running the .inp and .f files on Abaqus Command! I think I am not correctly following the instructions as I am new to Abaqus!

I think it will be really great and helpful if you make changes in the original exa_hydfracture.inp file, wherever it says "MAKE CHANGES HERE", to the best of your knowledge and expertise and send it to me and I will try to compare it to the changes I made! This will clarify things easily! I have attached the required original input file.

Thanks Anshul! I was just confused as it said to do so! Another doubt I had, I was trying to see the results shown in the example (refer to the link attached). However, I was trying various things but was not able to generate the following graphs shown in results of the example. Actually, I tried to refer to the manual but was not able to get these?

I am not sure but I see *node print at the end of the file. That seems to print the PORE PRESSURE and FLOW RATE at the node set named 'target_zone'. I don't know where is that node set you can find it from odb file. You will get the results of this *node print in *.dat file generated after the analysis.

For PFOPEN, I think you need to create a path (search manual for how to create path) along the crack where you want to get the data and then extract XY data along that path. I can see PFOPEN as an element output.

Thanks Anshul! No one untill now has been so clear in suggestions as you! Thanks a lot. I did try to see the .dat file, but it confused me a little bit. Hence I opened .odb file and tried to directly see the XY data and plot it. I did find options to obtain the graphs, but all I could do is get it versus time instead of distance from wellbore. However, even the one versus time made sense and were logical.

Also, I need a .cae file to see the model database. It was not generated. However, I observed that .pes file, may be, displays model database (not sure but it did show model data). However, if I try to go reverse and submit a job using this model database (i.e. the one obtained from .pes file), I get an error!!

Am I on a right track??

I don't know about *.pes file. But you can create you model by importing *.inp file in ABAQUS( File>import>model). However, after making cae file from *.inp and then submitting the job will not guarantee a perfect run, because there are some features which are not there in cae and hence will not be imported. If these kind of features are there in your inp file then it may give error or may not give results what you are looking for.

Hence its better to submit job from command file if you have *.inp file, then you can look at the model by opening *.odb file also. You can look at the manual (or a google search) for command line run, if you do not know about it. It is very simple.

Thanks Anshul! Yes I have already tried the things you told me. I tried to import model using .inp file, but nothing was imported in the model content. This might be because all/most of the command lines were ignored. I also know how to submit the job with Abaqus command, but the .odb file just gives results, and I want to see how the model was constructed! This will help me in developing a similar model on my own!

Is there no other way to import the model with all features using any of the files generated?

Unfortunately there is no other way (known to me at least). However, If you want to understand modelling, you have to make efforts to understand model by referring keywords in the *.inp file. (Keywords starts from single star (*) like *Element or so) and then refer abaqus keyword reference manual. From there you can get corresponding CAE menu for that keyword. Hope it helps you.

I tried to spot out the keywords in one of the example .inp file that are not supported by Abaqus CAE. I referred to different manuals along with the Keyword reference manual, but what I could find out is a way to edit .inp file using keyword editor. However, as per your suggestions, I think you meant to say that there is a document that will tell me the substitute for the unsupported keyword? I couldn't find it!

No, I did not mean to say that there is a document that will tell you the substitute for the unsupported keyword. There is no substitute for any keyword. I just wanted to say that keyword manual may give to cae entry for the same. For eg. For keyword *dload manual says

Specify distributed loads.

Products: Abaqus/Standard  Abaqus/Explicit  Abaqus/CFD  Abaqus/CAE  Abaqus/Aqua  

Type: History data

Level: Step

Abaqus/CAE: Load module

This gives the information that *dload can be used in abaqus standard as well as explicit and using cae this can be accessed from load module.
