BOOK by Rai et al 2014 titled " Constructed Wetland: An Ecotechnology for wastewater treatment and conservation of Ganga Water Quality, Chapter on Environmental Sustainability, pp 251-264 Edited by Thangavel, P & Sridevi, G.
Dear Gaurav, This indeed is an interesting subject involving wetlands for process of waste water. Basically the main pollutants are physical, chemical and bio-logical ( Organic having - C and H with others in different combinations)
Ideally wetlands can to some extent take care of physical- by filtration and settling process. Bio process is evolved with phyto- remediation in root zones, and other memberalia in plant species. Hence can easily bio-remedy sewage water and others.
If it is pure industrial pollutants having acidic or basic matter then they will have to be separately dealt with. However there are some reed-beds which can be used for chemical pollutants and can be fixed in their roots.
Some more detailed study of the waste water constituents and to deal with them in batches have to be done pre- wetland process in feed- chambers etc. with apprpriate HRT- hydraulic retention time.
Wetlands require sun shine and water with dissolved oxygen, this aspect can be enhanced by irirgation by sprinkler showers or cascades etc.
