I'm wanting to model some prestressed concrete structural components (beams and slabs) using LS-DYNA. From surveying the literature, it appears there are a few common methods: (1) apply thermal loads to selected elements which then stress the other elements representing the strand, (2) include an initial axial force within the beam elements representing the strand, and (3) include an initial stress within the beam (or solid) elements representing the strand.

Which of these techniques have worked most effectively for you? Were there any "tricks" or unique aspects to modeling prestressed elements in your preferred method that you would mind sharing to reduce my learning curve?

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions. I look forward to learning from you.
