I have to carry out a study on the incidence of different species of ticks which parasitize the livestock animals from Lahore Region in the Northern Punjab and Rahim Yar Khan Region in southern Punjab, Pakistan simultaneously to find out the comparison in occurrence.

All the best for you. First you have to be able to differentiate between the hard and soft ticks and this could be done by observing the existence or absence of the scutum (exist in hard ticks and absent in soft ticks). Moreover, the mouth parts, it is extended in front of the body in case of the hard ticks but lies on the ventral surface in soft ticks (inside a groove known as; Camerostome). Then you can go for the genera level by using the key for Ixodid or Argasid ticks according to your findings. You are in Pakistan, so i think you can use the key of the indian key by Miranpuri and Gill (1983) and Geevarghese and Mishra (2011). Pics attached are detailing what i'm saying

About 80 species of ticks are there in the family Ixodidae which is known as "Hard ticks" and about 10 species are in the family Argasidea known as " Soft ticks" . The easy way to identify hard tick and soft tick was by presence and absence of scutum (Dorsal shield). It will present in case of hard tick, absent in soft tick, as well as by seeing the mouth part structure also we can differentiate, in case of hard tick mouth part will be visible from above (anterior) but in soft tick it will not be visible from above (Ventral position).
