I would like to use SPSS for analyzing historical stock prices for selected companies. I would like to use historical monthly data or month wise data for analysis. What statistical techniques can be used on stock prices. I am new to this area. But interested to perform research. Please attach related articles or link to related articles.
That depends what you're trying to do. Your question is vague and doesn't indicate specifically what kind of research question you want to test, so it's impossible to advise what kind of analysis is appropriate.

I think SPSS is not an appropriate software for your goal. I assume that to work with financial stock data, you will need panel data analysis and time series analysis. My colleagues recommend using STATA for these goals. But it is only my assumption, since you did not define your goals exactly, as Stephen said. If you want to, for example, simply compare average prices, an ANOVA test in SPSS would suffice.

First you need to sign up for a data feed, there are several ones in the market, but one of the best is provided by Equis International:
www.equis.com, or www.metastock.com.
Then, you obtain the software MetaStock, but please use a end-of-day version (a version that stores, for each day, just the open, high, low, close, volume). Do *not* use real time versions.
After that, MetaStock can calculate several things for you that help your quest. It can build a 30 days moving average, that will behave more smoothly than daily data, and so perhaps will be helpful. And it can work with really monthly data, with the data of each month being the average of the days of the month.
If MetaStock does not allow to calculate the correlations you want, you can always export the data, including the calculated monthly data, and then you use it in SPSS or STATA.
