Hello everyone,
I am working with an amino acid transporter from Arabidopsis thaliana. The characterization studies carried out using plant and yeast systems indicate that the transporter is an exporter of amino acids. However, when the gene was expressed in another heterologous system i.e. Xenopus oocytes. The results show that the transporter is involved in the uptake of amino acids rather than being an exporter.
I want to know what can be possible reasons for this.

Could it be possible that the activity of your transporter is not detectable in oocytes.
For example, could there be a native transporter to Xenopus that uptakes the same substrate? Then you might be incorrectly attributing import to your plant transporter.
