Usually, researchers draw an IV curve to study the performance of a pemfc. I have two questions in that.
Is that only to find the peak power (I x V) point to operate the cell at the particular point to have maximum power?
I've tried to simulate a pemfc by fluent. It gives its maximum power at 3v, whereas in many research papers the peak power is reported at 5v. Am i wrong in something?

The IV curve shows the overall performance of the MEA you are testing, so knowing the maximum power is part of it.
As for the peak power, it could be multiple factors. It could be that your MEA is not compressed enough or that you are not providing enough gases flowing to remove any water buildup if you are running it as a fuel cell. Alternatively, if it is run as a fuel cell, it could be the stoich of H2 to O2. It could also be your MEA does not provide that maximum power.

For a PEM fuel cell the max theoretical voltage is 1.23V multiplied by the generated current (I) of the power (P = V x I) and the maximum current density is dependent on 1) cell conditioning for optimal catalytic triple-point contact 2) protonic conductance of the MEA, 3) the active surface area for current, 4) H2/O2 stoichiometric ratio plus gas flow max ramping during ohmic losses stage, and 5) after testing add the IR correction to the data to isolate the electrolytic performance raising the power delivered.
