Calculation methods and data sources on Light Use Efficiency ?

1) Which method is more appropriate for calculating light use efficiency (LUE) for different ecosystem types on a large scale, GPP/PAR or NPP/fPAR?

2) Besides the data of MOD15A2, is there any other data source about PAR, fPAR and APAR?

My purpose is to calculate the LUE of different ecosystems including forests and grasslands, any recommendations? Thanks!
