Dear peers,
I would like to estimate the growth of my bacteria strains on solid substrates but measuring the biomass dry weight is not an efficient method due to the difficulties in separating the bacterial biomass from the substrate. Furthermore, we do not have an HPLC facility in our lab.
Could you please suggest me another method?

traditionally used to get a plate count of viable microorganisms assuming they are not filamentous but real time PCR would be better if available and most likely provide reasonable results
I'll need to search for one of those in the department to use myself
