Our lab will have some money to buy equipment pretty soon and we are interested in buying a liquid nitrogen mammalian cell line storage chamber/freezer.
For me, taking out frozen cells from a liquid nitrogen tank is always not so great of an experience. Therefore, I want to ask your opinion:
Is there any ergonomic and well designed liquid nitrogen freezer that make taking out cells less painful?

Cant say you best companies though but, Thermo Scientific provides good & economical cryo-storage tanks. Please look in to the seller website at your country. We're using them since almost 10 years without any issues. You'll have an option of larger & smaller tanks depending on how much & how long you store. Besides, rack- & box(100 vials/box)(preferred!!) storage type and well like storage.
Well, I can't comment on "being less painful" because handling liquid nitrogen is always a risky job. Make good use of safety equipments & dont neglect their importance (Cryo vials are known to explode while thawing if liquid N2 enters inside. It happened many a times with me.)

Ease of use will depend on the size of the storage container you are looking for. Larger LN2/gas phase N2 you will have to deal with storage canes (tall collumn style metal shelves which dip into the LN2, incase you were unfamiliar) and boxes (avoid cardboard, stick with plastic storage boxes). Medium sized storage still dealing with canes but they are smaller and easier to extract from the LN2. Smaller storage tanks like dewars are usually easy to access BUT the LN2 level has to be closely monitored if they are opened frequently, and these are not great for long term storage typically recommended for short term (3 months). So, to answer your question tell me how long do you want to be able to store cells, how easy do you want access to the cells to be and how many vials do you need/want to store?

We are interested in buying the Forma CryoPlus 2 Auto Fill LN2 system.
Also we will look into Bambanker Cell Freezing Media. I think this is also a great idea. I wonder how reliable is it. Anyone tried it before?

I have tried the Bambanker Cell Freezing Media. It works for me (at least within 6 months). Now I use this media to freeze all my cells. We store our cells in -80 freezer.
