SM is normally fine, ideally - but not always feasible - with a droplet of chloroform. For new phages you may need some experience and modifications. You will find out. Nearly never you will use your complete phage stock (say from plate lysates) in reasonable time. You should look, however, how fast the titre is going down. Good luck!
