Very good question, In my opinion, the combination of using data show and writing on the whiteboard is more suitable for students. I use the data show only to display complex graphics that take more time when drawn on the whiteboard and educational videos to give detailed information to the student.But solving mathematical questions is very important on the white board because the student understands the steps to solve the problem in this way step by step.

Everybody have to adopt technology to adjust in the rapidly changing world of today. Not for the data in laptop or computer, I am in support of online teaching and teaching with Power Point, though it requires creation of proper facilities.

My courses are all black board , well if any reads it from ppt then class will be empty !!!!!!!

I am currently a student. As per my perspective, I feel chalk and talk teaching will be more efficient and it will also help students to grasp all the concepts and facts better. But digitizing teaching wells all also be efficient in providing a pictorial representation of the data that has to be presented. So in conclusion, I feel a combination of chalk and talk teaching along with a moderate degree of appropriate digital aids would be better.

One of the advantages of using data show is attention-grabbing. After all, we live in a TV generation. (After some initial training, the novelty wears off and you can use the technology more effectively as a teaching tool.) With the right set-up, you can display an image larger than any overhead projector image. Easy to read from anywhere in the classroom. In our class, we aren’t projecting onto your typical, pull-down, overhead projector screen.

On the other hand, Whiteboards, at  their  core,  are a  free-form  medium.   The way  in which an  instructor  uses  them  is limited mostly  by creativity.   This inherent  versatility  means the whiteboard can be  used  to  address  a  variety  of  learning  styles,  by mixing  text  with  figures  and graphics, and  then explaining  what  is written or  drawn on them.  Information  written  on a whiteboard  is also generally  left  there  for  long  enough time for  students  to copy  it  into their  class  notes.  Furthermore, whiteboards can be  used  in conjunction  with other  ways of  presenting  course  content,  such as  handouts or  worksheets,  slideshows  or  videos  shown on  a projector, or  lab activities.

Dear Malik always prefer a piece of chalk and blackboard Maybe I,m old, but even when I as a PhD student a hated presentation done before lecture. I was always boring to me to read exacltly what the lecturer reads from its slides, of course there are people who know what to speak and what to show in the slide. By there are minority. I have impression that if you have a piece of chalk and empty blackboard you concentrate what is important and was is not.

I prefer each method according to the conditions and location of the lecture, each method has its specifications and accepted by the students. In general, both methods are acceptable to all workers in the field of education.

I prefer the white board but using them both is good considering the different learning style. also the white board is good alternative when there is power cut.

As such, using both video show and the blackboard simultaneously can cater to the needs of learners with different preferred styles of learning.However, various ways of presenting input is not so important as the teachers' skills in manipulating them because classroom dynamics require teachers' knowledge of both philosophy of teaching and the needs of the learners.

Of course, the importance varies according to the scientific courses materials. About twenty years ago I used only the computer with different presentation methods and animation movies in teaching. It has always been the preferred method for students and I believe it is the best and fastest way to deliver the ordered information and return it quickly if necessary to answer any question or explanation. Point and as a mobile data buffer, while saving time

In most cases, the lecture will be presented in a PowerPoint presentation, but at the same time I often need to explain the writing on the whiteboard to some drawings, explain some issues or explain practical experiences

In my opinion as teaching staff we should follow innovations in teaching methods and adopt them bu I used to use combination of ppt presentation and writing on the white board . The student give more attention for writing on the white board and the ppt can display videos and images that can say a lot of words about the presented topic.

It depends on what you explain. If you explain some theories and definitions, it is preferred to use computer (data show). On the other hand, blackboard has to be used in case of mathematical calculations, drawings, practical exercises.

The teacher has to use all the methods and instruments (tools) to promote the meaningful learning of his students. Be classic or rudimentary materials or instruments or advanced technology. The best of everything at your fingertips.

Based on my personal experience, there is no big difference in the student feedback one gets when using blackboard or a data projector. However, it can be said that giving good lectures on blackboard is easier, as the method itself protects from certain common mistakes (like going too fast and filling the slides with too much text), and forces the students to listen more carefully (in particular, if lecture notes are not provided digitally), so the lecturer doesn't have to focus on keeping them awake.

If properly used, the both techniques have certain advantages for teaching particular topics. With projector, one obviously has better opportunities to use charts, images, videos and interactive computer software as a part of the presentation. Blackboard is better suited (or at least easier) option for topics where long calculations or other step-by-step solution processes are needed. Of course, if the classroom allows it, using the both is a good option.

I totally agree @Antti Rasila, board work has roughly the same impact as projector-based lectures. The one big exception is that with board work, there is more opportunity for interaction with students.

It also the case that a mixture of youtube presentations with conventional lectures adds spice to the mix. The hope is that there is an internet connection in a room where a lecture is given.

Myself being a teacher prefer chalk and talk. This method reaches student with greater impact. Sometimes use of ppt can be done only in certain cases where you would like to project a beautiful animation or a picture for better understanding. Pictorial representation can stay in student's mind for longer duration We know technology has improved
