I have guided some research on classic herbs, their combinations and even making our own combinations, based on our interpretation of Ayurveda, Pharma Tech and Pharmacology. We were always prooved right at the end.
We would know the effectiveness of 5 Karma but there is no comparision possible as 5 Karmas correct those diseases, disorders and discomforts for which there in no specific treatment in Allopathy.
5 Karmas deals with REJUVENATION of body, systems and functions (we did the same with herbs) but mostly it does not deal with specific diseases. Most diseases get corrected with 5 Karma, as a part of Rejuvenation.
Pl simply do the pathological evaluation the parameters of three major deficiencies (eg. immunology, Memory, Digestive function, Virility) which need rejuvenation treatment, apply 1 Karma at a time, see pathological changes, and proceed with remaining Karmas and pathological evaluation similarly.
All Kerala Ayurveda Centres have such data.
Himalaya company has carried out lot of Pharmacological research on treatment of all sort of diseases with herbs.
Baba Ramdeva's Patanjali Yoga Peeth also has done lot of Pharmacological work on herbs and Yoga treating the uncurable diseases.
For example there are immunologic diseases for which allopathy gives immunglobulins (like MS or Guillain-Barre). One could make a study with 50 similar cases treated with allopathy and 50 with just 5 karma. This could be statistically validated. But immunological data after 5 karma would be ok. just for getting convinced.
Not sure if there are comparative studies on Panchakarma as such, but there are defenitely independent clinical trails on efficacy of Panchakarma. eg: Successfully being practiced in a hospital in Germany on patients with Parkinson's disease leading to reducing conventional medication and begetting qualitative improvements.
A few comparative studies on single herbs are avaialble , for eg: Arthritis Research UK on efficacy of Shallaki on Osteoarthritis.
One of the company I worked marketed Immunoglobins in form of Placenta Extract some 37 years back for the same purpose. But here, your question had different aspect, as apparent to me. I left teaching and guiding academic research or else I would have loved to undertake Panchkarma (5 Karma) project, with the same approach, as suggested earlier. Thanks for idea.
I believe it is Evangelisches Krankenhaus Hattingen, not sure if it is a formal 'study', but I believe some interesting work involving some aspects of Panchakarma on patients with PArkinsons disease is going on , with some interesting results.
Dr Klueber, would be grateful if you could let me know if, what you find in Hattingen is what you were looking for.
I was trained in Ayurveda from Kerala ( the home of Panchakarma) but am now in UK. If you would like, I can ask my peers in Govt Ayurveda Collegiate hospitals in Kerala if formal studies like the one you are looking for have been undertaken. Please let me know.
The applications of panchakarma are mentioned in different diseases. These are not restricted to a single diseases. It is basically detoxification processes. The studies on before and after effects of panchakarma are carried out on regular basis in the Ayurveda medical schools.
