Historically, mucuna pruriens has been used in ayurveda for Parkinson-like symptoms, and it has the highest concentrations of levodopa (not dopamine, corrected via Stephen Warren) of any known natural substances. Carbidopa is usually administered with levodopa to enhance bio-availability. One study has shown faster onset of effect, and increased "on" time with m. pruriens compared to levodopa/carbidopa, without dyskinesias. What co-factors in m. pruriens or its preparation might contribute to this?
