today we submitted a paper concerning the psychometric properties of the FAD in a population of cancer patients and their families for publication. In sum, the General Functioning Scale has good reliability and is able to discriminate between groups of patients/spouses who seek family counselling (worse functioning) and who do not seek counselling. Although the GF scale is able to reflect the higher burden of the patient group in the family counselling context, I would not recommend to use any FAD scale to identify cases from non-cases by cut-off scores (if this is your screening intention), as nearly all group averages in all scales were still in the "healthy range" (below an average score of 2). Thus, the sensitivity of the GF scale (and other subscales) may be too low for this special population.
Thank you for your quick response. You are completely rigth with your speculation about my screening intention and your note about sensitivity. I am looking forward to read you paper.
