Yes. The transcriptionally regulated probes will work in all neurons with dlgs (psd95, psd93, and/or sap97) scaffolding excitatory and geohyrin scaffolded inhibitory synapses. It takes 36-60 hours post-transfection to see improved signal-to-noise and the transfected or transduced neurons always have the prettiest labeling in live imaging versus fixed and stained. In general neuronal-derived cell lines tend to be more resistant to toxic insults than their primary counterparts. Just play a bit with the dose-responce to find those doses giving similar results in both systems. Also be careful if you're planning to use differentiation as measure of neurons' healthness since differentiation timing might be very variable among cell lines and primary cultures.
