We see researchers and supervisors emphasizing more on publication than ever before and researches are planned and designed to add more and more publications to add to their profile. The true spirit of research (i.e. to know the unknown and gain new knowledge) is somewhere subdued.
Somehow a 'publicationmania' is overpowering the research. How do you feel about it? Which is more important Publication or Research?

Yes and resounding YES... as academics these days - with the policy 'publish or perish' an 'publish in the A* and A journals' are really concentrating on how many publications they have rather than what is the implication of these applications... though we might have more than one source and many resources - but we are becoming shallower in our understanding and depth in knowledge... this is stated here with regret.

It seems so, with points being allotted to publications and scales depending on points, everyone seems to be keen on publishing. Research seems to be taking a back seat.
Yes, publication has become more important than researches. Other associated things such as impact factor, citation index etc. also have gained importance. This has become a bad trend already, and nothing perhaps can be done about that.
@Darsingh, thanks for sharing the question. Yes,unfortunately, the publications have prevailed research in last decade! Of course, research is always more important, while the publication should arise out of research!
Feels very bad when a senior professor says, "We don't care about the implementation of our research work. Our research is important if it generates a lot of research papers."
