I am searching for a cell line that is easily transfectable and reliably responsive to insulin stimulation as measured by glucose uptake, with a good protocol for evoking the insulin response. On a first but pretty solid try, HEK293 did not do it (contrary to some literature I've seen), but I may be doing something wrong.

Rattus norvegicus skeletal muscle (L6) cell line is known for insulin-responsive glucose-uptake. After transformation of myoblast to myotubes the cell periphery shows maximum number of GLUT 4 transporters, those are insulin-responsive glucose transporters. The maturation from myoblast to myotubes can easily be down by supplementation of 2% Fetal Bovine Serum.
