I have bought some on the internet, but it didn't work for my soils. When I asked the company (that advertised it as suitable for soils) to please put me in contact with anyone that has used it for soils, they couldn't. I tested it with commercial enzymes and then it worked well. So maybe it was my extraction method. Looking for urease, beta-glucosidase and phosphatase (neutral if possible).
Dr. Anelia, It is a good idea and we thought about this. Since soil enzymes are not free unlike pure crystalline preparations and are complexed with humic matter and clay, incubation times are much longer since the substrates have to penetrate through to reaction site. It may work for dehydroagese activity perhaps. For all other soil enzymes you might need to first extract soils with mild alkali and in the brown extract look for soil enzyme activity. Here you will run into another problem of color.
Ultra-sonication (with an sonication probe, not just a water bath) works fine.
