Anyone holds information regarding the typical hourly distribution of rain events in Australian cities (i.e. rain intensities, hour by hour) is welcome to contact me for a shared research/publication.
Currently, the (insufficient) data that is available for me is daily rain and IDF (intensity–duration–frequency) curves.
Please no comments which refers me to the BOM website :) thanks.
I am not from Australia. In my field that is irrigation and agroecology it is OK to work with the daily rate of precipitation.

I am too eagre since many years to augment availability of such hourly rainfall and runoff data for some of the Indian catchments , if any body can help me in this regard I shall be gratified...

Since you are ruling out the BOM website, this severely restricts your options as BOM is the primary source of rainfall intensity data in Australia.The pluviograph data is not available on-line, it needs to be ordered, and there will be a charge involved.
Rainfall intensity data can be obtained from other sources (e.g. reservoir operators), though this will not be available on-line, and will also generally need to be purchased.
Each state has its own data portal, but these are focused more on surface and groundwater monitoring, so I am not sure that hourly rainfall is available on all sites. The NSW data portal does have sites with rainfall data, but from what I can see this is only daily data. The NSW Pinneena database does include high resolution rainfall data, but again, this needs to be purchased (comes on a DVD along with all the surface water data).
The water quality model MUSIC (http://ewater.org.au/products/music/) includes rainfall intensity data, though this may not be up to date (I think it has data up to 2009, but I am not a MUSIC user, so the information is second hand).
Ultimately, you are most likely going to need to buy the data.
Overlooking your reference to Australian cities, there is a set of data being captured in regional areas of South Australia at a 15 minute time step, which includes rainfall totals for each 15 minute interval.
The data is available free of charge at http://aws.naturalresources.sa.gov.au/. This link will take you to a map of the sites, and you can then select from around 50 sites located around Adelaide and into the regions to the east of the city.
Once you select a site you will find a "Download" link which will allow downloading of all data between user specified dates, at Daily or 15 minute intervals.
