Hi all,
I am looking for a suitable immortalized Human Microglial cell line for my study. I will co-culture the microglial cells (co-treatment and post-treatment with honey) with the neuronal cells (SH-SY5Y) to study the effects of honey-treated microglial cells on neuronal cells.
Any advice you would have will be much appreciated.

I would think that you should revisit your aim and the way to achieve it. Would not honey affect neurons? And why honey? Sure you Wsee something" as honey have dozens of molecules, but what the results would mean?
what Elliot is suggesting is a primary culture that Celprogen sells. Not immortalized. They apparently are from human cortex although I cannot "see" how they obtain them from "human"

Mr. Elliot: I don't think I will be using a primary cell culture for my project, as they can be quite difficult to maintain. I will discuss it over with my supervisor to see what she has to say about it.
Dr. Rafael: My project involves treating activated microglial cells with honey to determine if the honey has any anti-inflammatory effects on them. I don't have all the details on this part of my project, as it is something that I will be doing later on, possibly in a year from now. I do recall my supervisor stating that we will be doing additional assays to determine which cell line is influencing the activities of the other cell line in the co-culture. The first part of my project will involve the usual cytotoxocity tests to determine the toxicity of the honeys on both cell lines, and running assays to determine their inhibitory effects on cytokine, ROS, and RNS production.
