Oxford Nanopore has released a successor to the popular MinION Mk1B sequencer, the Mk1D, which is currently only available through pre-registration. The main update seems to be related to improved thermal regulation (https://nanoporetech.com/support/devices/MinION-Mk1D/what-is-different-in-the-minion-mk1d-), in order to function in a wider range of environments. I guess this is to please people who want to bring their lab into the field. Which prompts the question of whether there's any point in getting it over the presumably cheaper Mk1B if you're only going to use it in a normal lab setting. Has anyone here actually tested the MK1D yet, and noticed any difference from the Mk1B? Or does anyone have some more information about what can be expected from the Mk1D compared to the Mk1B?
