Any modification is needed to measure the reducing sugars in palm leaves using DNSA method ?

I am trying to estimate reducing sugars in coconut and date palm leaf by the DNSA method. The extract is brown before DNSA addition. How to eliminate background-color? Can we measure the absorbance of the extract before and subtract it?
