Tasks that require less materials are scarce I think. A test such as the Hayling Sentence Completion Test may be suitable, however: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0887617707001928 

The Cognitive Estimation Test may also be an option:

But I don't know whether these tests are 'broad' enough. In clinical practice, informant questionnaires used often, such as the Dysexecutive Questionnaire (DEX) or Frontal Systems Behavioral Evaluation (FrSBE); such measures are not performance based but should measure several aspects of executive functioning in everyday life.

Hi Himani,

Letter number sequencing from the WAIS (for working memory), along with a Stroop (inhibition), FAS/Animals for verbal fluency and Trails A/B for cognitive flexibility will together give you a fairly good overview of executive functioning without the need for much in the way of materials.

Piotr's suggestions of the questionnaires is a good one too!

Thanks Kelly and Piotr. The Cognitive estimation test is a good suggestion. I will just have to try it a few times for the metrics themselves  - pounds versus kilograms etc. I also re-discovered the Five point test for design fluency - I believe a good complement to the verbal fluency measures, especially when one wants to avoid penalising a patient for weaker verbal abilities.

The NIH has funded a set of executive tests called the Examiner. This is a brief (about 30-40 minutes) set of executive tests from which you can pick and choose what you want.  They are made available for free to researchers who apply, and only need a standard PC.
