Hello, Sorry to ask such a basic question but unfortunately I have no access to google or Google scholars. I need to use my membrane (pore size 1.8nm) to separate some hazardous bio-molecules larger than 1.8nm. Can anyone give me any suggestion? Thanks
Nano filtration is used 1 to 10 manometers pore size. Commercial membranes remove molecules larger than 150 to 250 molecular weight which includes nearly all biological fragments. Your membrane should be rated by the manufacturer in Daltons (molecular weight). Ultra filtration has a pore size of around 0.01 microns and stops molecules larger than about 5000 Daltons and nearly all living things, but passes biological fragments. Micro filtration about 0.1 micron stops bacteria but passes viruses in the range of 50,000 Daltons. To be safe you should use a membrane certified by the manufacturer for your purpose.

I have synthesized membrane (it's not commercial) and i have checked it's porosity. the pore size is 1.8nm. I have checked it's rejection performance by using some dyes but dyes are usually smaller than 1.8nm. My membrane thickness is 10nm. I couldn,t get a rejection higher than 60%. I was wondering to see if an enzyme/protein or any pharmaceutical hazardous substance with diameter larger than 1.8nm. thanks
