I followed the youtube video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBUhH-d3sxw.
I followed the same steps, but applied to the simulation of my beam, with my experimental data (in the attached table). My beam has stirrups in half, and in the other half the crack, which should be more vertical, showed the most horizontal results, as shown in the figure (where it shows the comparison of the simulation and the real beam).
Can anyone tell me what I can improve on the model to make it more realistic?
I used 5 seconds in Abaqus explicit as analysis time. In the video the author used 10, but I don't believe this is that significant. It took 5.5 hours for the analysis to complete.
The attached figure also has the result of the author of the youtube video, and in his case, the cracks were vertical.
Please, can anyone help me?
The primary failure behavior in the video screenshot linked is flexural failure, however the data you're using is for shear deficient beams. I feel that if the CDP parameters are adjusted, the model will be more suitable for your data displaying cracks.behavior. Changing from one CDP model to another will assist you in capturing the correct response. (I done something similar for a shear difficient beam in the past, as shown in the "Shear Deficient Beam.png")
Tufail Mabood is correct, my analysis is about shear failure. The compression and tensile data on the CDP have already been adjusted to my lab-tested material. Do you think that the parameters that I should change refer to the constitutive model adopted for the calculation of stresses and strains? or the CDP input data such as dilation angle and viscosity parameter?
The image of your analysis was similar to mine... the shear crack is not perfectly defined then? how interesting...
Viscosity. If you use Isight with Abaqus, you can calibrate the correct response of the CDP Parameters. No offense the compression damage and tension damage will be adjusted but at the end it is the CDP Parameter which play role in energy absorption of the model.
I think you can check the meshing and element type as it can effect the way strain distribute and control strain localization in the element. Thus, element type and meshing can significantly controlling the crack path and pattern
