Does anybody have experience with 4T1 mammary murine cell line (derived from BALBc)? I will need to inject them (I.V) in an allogenic C57BL/6 strain, but I have no clue if the cells will be still able to form lung metastasis.
Dear Mattia, as you rightly pointed out 4T1 is a Balb/c derived cell line, injecting them in immunocomptent mice like C57BL/6 will for sure lead to an immune reaction and rejection of either tumor take or the tumor can also be rejected upon initiation. Even if some cells survive, the variation due to immune reaction will only lead to inconclusive results hence its not advisable to use allogenic cell line in immunocomptent mice. You could use SCID or Nude mice if for some reason you don't have access to balb/c mice. If you want to perform an experiment in transgenic mice with C57BL/6 background, I would recommend cell lines derived from similar background like Lewis lung carcinoma.

Kshitij, thank you very much. A tumor cell line derived from C57BL/6 background it's exactly what I need. Since I want to test the metastatic potential of any cell line in C57BL/6 transgenic mice, are you aware of additional tumor cell lines on C57BL/6 background? BTW Lewis lung carcinoma is a great starting for me. Thank you very much.
