Does 3D composite analysis in Abaqus, behave exactly like composite materials? I saw somewhere that they use solid homogeneous and then partitioned the part and then assign material orientation to each section while defining material properties as engineering constants in property section.
Anybody had any experience?

as you said, we can divide a solid homogeneous body to partitions and assign the material to each part, but it has some difficulties. first, you have to mesh every partition separately (it is difficult in complex geometries). second, you cannot see the results like stress in global directions of each layer easily and the failure parameter isn't enabled. when we have several layers, it is time-consuming to create a partition for each layer.

Thank you. The problem is since we need to export file from another software, I could not use composite lay-up properties actually it gives error. Therefore, I should go with 3D partitioning.
