I am currently working doing a lot of N/N 2D gel electrophoresis for investigating replication structures in yeast. We might invest in a bead beater, which can handle a specific volume, but I am afraid that bead beating instead of vortexing will shred the DNA structures. Vortexing is time consuming, hence considering.
If you want to use bead beater for DNA extraction, it will be fine. You just need to find out the right speed and time that could not hurt DNA but weaken the cell wall.
However, after DNA extraction, any agitations might impose a negative force to genomic DNA and lead to fragmentation of DNA. In order to purify your DNA, you may use either specific DNA purification kit or specific magnetic beads that are adapted to recover DNA or RNA.
