Hello all, appreciate your help as it is much needed. I am trying to understand whether my thesis should be a research paper or a case study. I want to study the effects of disruptive events of global supply chains and then focus on the retrospective of one company. Is this automatically a case study, or can I follow the structure of a research with literature review on the overall problem and then focus on interviewing points of contact of said company to gather my findings and propose a management model to help the company respond to disruption in the supply chain?

You can but you have to study the previous works (with similar scope) that have done before. Then you can draw your research study to be compared with those case studies reviews.

Petra Costa Petra, You can do what you described. Begin by meeting with a faculty advisor. Present a condensed version of your idea. You need a preliminary OK. Maybe one from the company too. Plus you want a faculty or company advisor willing to help guide the research. Outline past work in the area of study. Compare that to your idea. Concisely describe your idea, how it advances existing knowledge and access you’ll need to tools and technology and the company. With that you need final approval. Begin working. Meet often with your advisor. - You’ll need a bit of luck and the courage to move forward when you don’t know what to do next. Its good if the latter happens often.
