When available I report the journal impact factor of my articles corresponding to the year that the articles were published. However, I wonder if there is a consensus for choosing the year of the impact factor. Choosing the impact factor of the year before to the publication makes to me some sense too. And what about for publications that you can not find the impact factor for that year of its publication?

It is for the journal to mention its impact factor in the website and sometimes in the articles online.
The most interesting thing is the quality of the journal and its reputation. unfortunately, some journals and review are considered as predatory: they took money without academic credibility. Impact factor and indexation still a good indicator of reputation for journals and reviews.
I agree with you but like or not IF and derived Quartiles are important to get funding and fellowships, at least in Spain. So it is not only important the IF but also the ranking of the journal, hence my question
