Working on a River Rejuvenation Project and seeking Fresh Ideas instead of the run of the mill solutions:
(i) There are several technologies out there on rejuvenating a river as well as PREVENTING River pollution. What are your experiences or methodologies that tie up River Rejuvenation to Climate Change and/or the CDM? I am happy to receive connections on persons directly providing/selling such solutions
(ii) Would be interesting to work with those that have conducted mathematical models (published) on measuring the Toxicity of a River and importantly RELATIVE TOXICITY of a river. This second part is important but related to the first. Say we determine a River to be “clean” or pollution free,(1.0) what are the measurements benchmarks to determine relative toxicity form (a) biological/human waste (b) Chemical waste etc. (iii) combined.
Talking about the toxicity of a river, thats a really complicated issue. I will break this question into the following small questions: 1. What is the main ecological function of the river? 2. What are the sensitive groups/species? 3. What are primary pollutants? 4. Is a specific pollutant of concern, or a mixture? A toxicity model always need to know the following: 1. exposure; 2. impacted species and endpoints; 3. environmental factors (flow rate, precipitation, volume etc.); 4. chemical information (Kow, AS, HLC, t1/2 etc).
