I am looking into the uptake of LDL by Kupffer cells in relation to atherosclerotic build up. I was wondering if anybody here has modelled Human Kupffer cells using various cell lines? Are there any available human hepatic macrophage cell lines (preferably non-primary)? Also, ideally; if there are suggestions for cell lines that can be transfected easily - that would be awesome!

Hi,
I think you can and presumably Kupffer cells represent specialized tissue macrophages within the liver accounting for 80 – 90 % of the total macrophage pool of the body.
