I guess my paper rejected for this reason because the reviewer's comments are not focused on fundamental error in the manuscript... I had no supervisor or co-author; should I be a PhD holder to be accepted?
You do not need to have a PhD for your manuscript to be accepted for publication. Reviewers assess your manuscript and not your qualification. In fact, reviews are usually blind. The identity of the author is not revealed to the reviewer. So, the reviewer does not know who the author is or the author's affiliation. Whether the author has a PhD or not is not part of the reviewer's parameters to assess the quality of a manuscript.
But be reminded that there are a number of reasons why your manuscript may be rejected. If your manuscript does not conform to the journal's guidelines, it can be rejected. Your manuscript may also be rejected if it is not within the scope of the journal. Again, poor quality of the manuscript including poor use of language can result in your manuscript being rejected.
If you are planning to write a manuscript for publication, you have to first decide the journal where you want to publish. Then, find out the scope of the journal and study the guidelines for authors. If your manuscript is not within the scope of the journal, look for another journal which has scope that will accommodate your manuscript. Then, follow the guidelines to prepare your manuscript. Ensure good quality of manuscript in both substance and language.
