Begin with aquaponic approaches, combine polyculture practices, mix in pyrolic-reduction or digestion of waste and bioremediation of emissions.

A human being produces enough urea to grow their daily bread, and enough methane gas to cook it.

MOST food produced is wasted - and rarely even composted.

If only rejected groceries were composted, and sewage reclaimed for fuel/nutrients - without even the other measures I offered - there would be no hunger.

The problem is not remotely the quantity of human beings - the problem is the arrogant complacency the how things are done are the only way they can be done - or that government should fix it.

I have near 2 decades in research in these areas - but my lab has no funding. What do you suppose could be done if only a few of us quite whining and begging for grants - and instead pooled our resources to simply build the damned thing?

My point is when people are many given a vegetarian diet the carrying capacity for the planet is decided different than the carnivorious planet.

If the people in developing world take on the Western diet the ability to support them will be a major problem. If the growing population is moderated in its growth and vegetarian diets prevail the fodd provision for the human population will not be problematic.

I strongly agree with the opinions saying that it is difficult given the rise in the rate of population growth in the world, but still it is not impossible. In my opinion, it will be necessary to opt for sustainable practices by making more use of natural products, especially for fertilization. For the latter, fertilization with green manure, rotations favoring nitrogen-fixing legumes ... will be able to greatly avoid the chemical which harms the soil, the environment and human health and also makes it possible to limit the use of agricultural practices that promote greenhouse gas emissions. To control insects, plant diseases and weeds, biological control is an interesting method to follow and develop. In addition, and for this phytosanitary aspect, the use of pesticides should opt for the choice of products that are less toxic and less harmful as possible. It is a large open section for applied and fundamental research in order to meet the challenge of climate change and that of the food crisis on a global scale.

Dear M. D.H. Prodhan, I fully agree with Hafida Rahal-Bouziane. However, I would like to add some considerations. It is very difficult to estimate the world population in the next 80-100 years. The UN estimates that in 2100 the world population will be almost 11 billion people while other sources estimate that the world population in 2064 will peak at around 9.7 billion people to then begin a slow decrease and reach about 8.8 billion people in 2100. In any case, schools, scientific research, and the so-called "science in the kitchen" can and must do a lot to solve the problem.

1) According to FAO estimates one-third of all food produced in the world is wasted it is absolutely necessary to minimize waste. Scientific research can and must do a lot in this area. Furthermore, we must learn and teach children, in schools, not to waste food. Food waste means also unnecessary production of many tons of greenhouse gases responsible for global warming.

2) Across the world, in the face of a growing number of obese people, there are still many people who are dying of hunger or from malnutrition and denutrition-related diseases. We must learn and teach, in schools, children to eat well and healthy both quantitatively and qualitatively.

3) Scientific research in agriculture can and must do a lot to minimize or totally eliminate the use of chemical fertilizers, chemical herbicides (such as glyphosate), and chemical insecticides.

4) We must also learn to feed on plants and animals (for example insects) currently considered inedible (science in the kitchen).
