Recent studies have highlighted the isolation of a new strain of SARS-Cov-2. Could the new discovery compromise the effectiveness of the vaccination campaign ???
Hi Matteo Nioi The mRNA vaccine will be effective to the newly evolved Covid-2 strain if the genes retain their degeneracy property. This is clear that the new strain is a mutant form of the Covid 19 strain, and the origin could be due to SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) also. Hence it is suggested that the whole genome of the new viral strain should be sequenced and both the strains should be compared using BLSTn, SNP, ORF etc bioinformatics tools as well as Microarray gene expression in vitro studies etc to reach a conclusion and apply the same mRNA or respective mRNAs as vaccines.
