Will post-Covid Society be different? Will this crisis leave a significant mark on peoples psychology and mind? Will they be more cold and distant with each other?
I hope so, that society will be different in a good sense of the word "Different".
Considering laws of thermodynamic Entropy grows by itself, but if we would like to achieve change for better, we need to put into some focused effort for some time.
Looking forward to the development of this question.
Yes, a lot will change after the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus pandemic. There will be a return to the so-called "new normality". The systems of crisis management and pandemic risk management in health care institutions and public institutions, in many corporations and companies will be improved. People will apply the principles of anti-pandemic safety to a greater extent than before the pandemic, and the standards of using instruments and systems that reduce the scale and risk of another pandemic will be raised. I hope that people will help each other, will be more kind towards each other, that the scale of social solidarity will increase, including intergenerational solidarity, mutual respect, support, etc.
Covid-19 is a great chance for us to re-evaluate our priorities. I believe it will do changes, but the changes will depend on the decision-makers. The fact that we are pushing automation and replacing human contact, had already shown us, some effects of that through spatial distancing. What I hope is that the decision-makers would understand the consequences and balance things.
For the yes there are alredy many resons provided in the previous answers to which I agree.
For the No the answers come with a change in the abstaction level. Earth is still rotating as before Covid, Winter and Summer are flipping, Moon rotated around Earth, species are diing and are boren, etc.
What I want to say is that the answer depends on the micro or makro prospective you take. The pandemics is a fight between viruses and humans. The resulting situation will be in any case a developement which we call: evolution.
Countries owed huge debts to mitigate the effects of the pandemic. This will have to be paid for by future generations. In poor countries there is a risk of inflation. Unemployment has grown considerably (mainly among informal workers). Many people have self-medicated, will it have an effect in the medium and long term? The balance has changed. In some countries, prejudice against Asians seems to have grown.
In short, I think we have learned to deal with the pandemic in the short term, but not in the long term yet.
The theories of networks and dynamic systems show that when faced with a disturbance that is capable of modifying the state of homeostasis and the attractors, it is possible that there is a change in the patterns that represent the stationary states. In social terms, if the pandemic makes it difficult to return the system to the initial state, it is very feasible that individual and collective behaviors will be different.
Unfortunately I am quite skeptical: The world has been through many pandemics, and more deadly than this, and everything has remained the same. Did something change after the misnamed "Spanish Flu" of the second decade of the 20th century ?; Another example would be the Great War: it was said that it was going to be "the War that would end all wars" and, just 30 years later, World War II was ravaging the world. We cannot confuse wishes with reality and, on the other hand, good intentions are just that: INTENTIONS.
likely yes because generally something that happens will leave a significant mark on it. then they must change their lifestyle to be cleaner, availability of water for cleanliness and keep a distance for those suspected of being exposed to Covid-19.
Mamia, the Coronavirus pandemic has not only brought about untold hardship, suffering and death onto families in all parts and corners of the globe but it has also shown how inter-connected we all are as a human race. I think, inasmuch as there would be changes in terms of how health organisations, governments and agencies respond to pandemics of this type in future and the way people heed to health advice, we may see a situation where communities learn to cooperate and collaborate more at the local level. We may also see more humaneness and acts of kindness as ways of addressing some of the shortcomings that government-level interventions have highlighted during the pandemic. Interesting...
Hopefully we will learn the lesson. From the other hand, the history shows that we did not learn so much from the previous disasters as pandemics, conflicts and wars. Every crisis is a time to think and do...
This pandemics has a huge impact on how we will look at the world throught after. They would still have a gap between what we had learned and what suppose to be learned. Human kind does not have the capability to seize the entire knowledge of a crisis and leave to History the part of the puzzle that will be understood later.
I think the post-covid society will result from changes that began before the virus appeared and were catalyzed by it. People will be much more alienated, the reality more and more digital. Mentioned above will pose new challenges to business organizations in the context of corporate culture, leadership, organizational design, brand management, CRM, knowledge requirements and skills of employees who will increasingly work remotely. New challenges will also arise in maintaining a work-life balance. Innovation, the use of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, corporate social responsibility - it seems to me that they will be among the main trends we will see. So far, what has been said are only guidelines for reflection, which do not claim to be exhaustive. Let's not forget what Carl Weick said - change is the only constant.
Hi @Mamia . Post pandemic there will not be significant change in the society. Ofcourse there will be the effects of the losses people have faced due to COVID-19. As per as the psychology of the people is concerned, it will tend to adapt the changed situations. " there is a end of every problem ". COVID-19 is no different.
There's no doubt that change post covid will positive and negative disruptions to what we seem normal. However, given the rise of the knowledge economy the world is already experiencing new ways of doing things. It should be expected there'll be a new generation of innovations in virtually all aspects of human endeavor. Chief to this change already points towards AI and nano science. Worryingly regulatory authorities will always seem to be overtaken by events given the incessant and relentless pace of modern technology. However, threat of these fast paced changes have the potential of falling into the hands of despotic elements of society and above all, organized criminal syndicates.
Covid-19 Pandemic in Muslim societies is seem as the message from the Almighty Allah, to warn mankind that they do not have any power in this world.
Only with the tiny, tiny micro creatures sent by Allah, man cannot do anything.
Even despairing after all the power, effort, and expense that is exerted is not small. They still defenceless.
Later, when the day of covid-19 Pandemic has passed, hopefully a new awareness will be formed. mankind is becoming better and more concerned about nature and the environment, and working together to build a better life .
Change can never come easy. Within every crisis there are opportunities and threats. Social wise Covid 19 has done so much harm with regard to psychological issues. But to a broader scale it has brought so many positive changes for example advancements in technological innovations. This cannot be realized now because it has a long term effect. For example with technology similar crisis can be easily tracked that even before it erupts it will be contained.
On the second part of the question, social distancing has proved to be a challenge already. Humans are social beings and it's difficult to observe the near or long term effects of social distancing. Regardless of the variations population distribution globally it's impossible to imagine how humans can be perfectly isolated or polarized. A case in point is that social distancing has indiscriminately been viewed, socially, as an inhibitor, if developments in increased human interaction are anything to go by. For example, Florida, has proven that social distancing is difficult call to make. Populous regions globally, regardless of economic or social development, distancing regulations are near impossible to enforce. Of course a remote "work at home" environment is taking root, still, as a given sample of the global population, is a negligible statistic. Then you have the "have not" billions in developing nations where socioeconomic and cultural traits are diverse and virtually impossible to observe a standardised approach or trend analyses. However, idealistically, in the long run, if the great divide in global wealth distribution is to be considered, social distancing, if enforced, will potentially divide the entire world.
I think people return back to their old ways and habits. Protest of not wearing masks and social distancing it meaningless as this is an emergency situation fighting an invisible enemy.
The post Covid society will definitely adhere to certain good norms related to health and hygiene. This should create a rational behaviour. Warmth and well being for fellow human beings will never diminish as we are social beings but I definitely feel these lessons of nature will never be forgotten.
The post covid society is about digitalization, remote work, and booming in such sectors of the economy as tourism, HoReCa, IT. In several months or early people will forget about masks, social distance, and so on. This crisis is much better than war or a classical economical disaster like the Great depression.
Post-Covid Society will be much different. Covid 19 has done so much harm with regard to psychological issues due to the effects of social distancing and pressures of quarantine.
Mamia Tetvadze Unfortunately I am quite skeptical: The world has been through many pandemics, &more deadly than this, and everything has remained the same.
Dear Mamia, I do hope people will not be colder with each other after the Covid crisis. Actually I don't think they will be, because we need contact and warmth, not only "cold" interactions in order to work or exchange services.
Maybe it will be a good thing if we stop shaking hands with total strangers, but on the other hand, when meeting someone new (ex: maybe new friends/colleagues/...) I think a kiss on the cheek, a hand shake is important. It may be depressing to eliminate all this because of fear of (new) diseases.
I think that after the Corona crisis, we will still see people moving away from each other. Also, the relationship between them will be colder day by day. The corona virus became an excuse for people to become more immersed in their own personal world and to pay less attention to each other. It is also possible that after the end of the Corona crisis, many people will become isolated and move towards depression and absurdity.Unfortunately, this is a fact that we are realizing more and more every day, and I am very sad about this.
The world after the Corona crisis will definitely be different. I hope that this crisis will be over for all countries soon and that people will be able to embrace each other with peace of mind soon.
Dear @Mamia I think post covid society will have little changes like- will be cautious about their health, social gatherings etc. There will be drop in carefree attitude. Psychological aspects needs to be taken care, society is going to face lots of problems related to mental wellbeing
Yes, the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) coronavirus pandemic has not expired yet and a lot has changed. In the minds of citizens, the need to develop social and intergenerational solidarity and mutual assistance is growing. In addition, in the general social awareness of citizens, the importance of sustainability in the relationship between man and the surrounding natural environment is growing.
The spread of the covid -19 pandemic has exacerbated human misery all across the world. We all share the same pains, hopes, and possibilities as human beings. The Covid-19 epidemic has shown us how interconnected we are: what occurs to one person may quickly influence many others. The virus will continue to put our mental fortitude and relationships to the test, exacerbate current disparities in society, push for more sustainability, and need new forms of life in the future. It is hoped that contactless business relationships and the exploration of means to promote them will increase in the future.
