Since the Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, was accused of sexual misconduct in early October 2017, similar allegations have been made against numerous other powerful people in different fields. Powerful people often believe that they can do whatever they like and get away with it. Let's discuss the positive impact of this movement on the society.
Social change is rarely dramatic over short periods of time. More often, it is incremental, happening a little bit at a time. Sometimes it is generational, unfortunately.
The recent MeToo events certainly are helping change the public perception, and I think will prove to be an important step on the road.
The Metoo movement is undoubtedly generatinga significant impact in terms of female presence and representation in television/cinema productions. If we take into account that TV is an important socialising agent, the potential of Metoo for social transformation is very great.

Since its very origins, the impacts of the #MeToo movement have been numerous and far-reaching. Namely, in the audiovisual industry, #MeToo, and its successor, Time’sUp, have achieved a great uplift in women’s presence on-screen/off-screen. Additionally, streaming services such as Netflix and HBO Max have contributed to diverse storylines and productions. As aforementioned my dear colleague Rocío Garrido, our article 'Archetypes, MeToo, Time'sUp and the Representation of diverse women on TV' intents to shed light on a more egalitarian and inclusive television landscape so that it can be used as an educational tool.
