The Smart City Mission of the Government of India is a bold, new initiative with the objective to promote cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its citizens, a clean and sustainable environment and harnessing technology as a means to provide smart solutions.

Smart city is an increasing demand in the backdrop of urbanization and population growth. However, without digitization it is hardly possible to get smart city.
Smart City is a misnomer & doesn't mean much. All cities require the sane things. Well laid out plan allocating spaces for residential areas, commercial areas, schools, hospitals, parking places etc, adequate open spaces, air, rail and road connectivity, good public transport, adequate water & electricity, good waste disposal & sewerage systems, and being safe from natural disasters like floods, and a effective policing system.
I agree with Dr. Emmanuel. All what makes life smart or easy without much hustle. In addition, internet facilities that would facilitate easy communication, transportation, education and research in all fields to stir up development is crucial in smart cities.
