If it is a SDOF system, use the logarithmic decriment method to get the damping ratio from free vibration response. You will need an accelerimeter or other transducer. If it is a MDOF system, obtain the frequency response with a spectrum analyzer and find the damping ratio in each mode from the half power points for each peak.
